Day 49: Texas Last Diet

Started the day today with my pancake.  I'm just not getting tired of that breakfast...  We got really busy in the morning, and so I didn't have much time to make lunch.  We ran to the local restaurant here in my neighborhood, and I found a cobb salad on the menu.  It looked like I could have everything in it, as long as they left out the cheese, so I ordered it.  Turned out to have very few salad leaves at the bottom, and mostly consisted of a boiled egg, delicious grilled chicken, and luncheon meat ham.  It was really very good, but who knows what goes into processed ham?  It could have had sugar added for all I know.  It also felt like a lot of meat for lunch, and by the time I had left the restaurant, I had a pain in my stomach that felt what I would imagine an ulcer feels.  It went away after a while, but came back later in the day when I had a can of seltzer water.  No idea what could be causing that.  I've certainly never had a pain like that before.  But there is one thing that being 57 has taught me, you never freak out about a pain until you have it for a couple of days.  Sometimes getting older just hurts...  I'll keep an eye on things.

I got to the office, and had a bowl of HEB power slaw, since I knew I hadn't gotten enough veggies with lunch.  It was remarkably good with just a little oil and vinegar on it.

The other thing I noticed is that my bowel movements have been pretty gross and tar-like.  I did some research and found that too much iron supplement can cause that (and I take an iron pill daily).  Another cause can be too much protein.  I opted then to not have my 8 ounces of meat with dinner.  I had a trail mix instead, and another big bowl of the HEB Power Slaw.  I'm going to cut back on the extra meat a bit, and ramp up the veggies, until my bowels cooperate.  I also took a probiotic pill.  I keep forgetting to take those.

I really think I've lost this week.  I caught sight of myself and really noticed how different I look.  I don't usually do that.  Others have been mentioning a lot too, so tomorrow we'll see how much if any I've lost.
